I do plan on removing the pellets but I won't be rushing them. I give mine breakfast, then lunch and pellets for dinner. The diet so far isn't so bad, just frequent feeds. I have wanted an Eclectus for about 20 years, so I guess I already knew about their diet etc. We have a bonded pair so this may help as they have each other and have been together for about five years. Of course things may change but so far, I'm really happy with them. They are always making some sort of sound but it is like having a radio on in the background. It was so quick, that your brain doesn't really register. Like a balloon popping when you don't expect it. When they honk, which has been twice so far, they are LOUD!!! But it is really quick. We just recently added our first Eclectus to our home and I honestly did more research this time, as did my partner. She was also really loud when she wanted to be and would go on and on. I found it impossible to bond and she was WAY too needy. I have owned a Galah for a short period but she wasn't suitable. Citrons can talk and both of mine do and they make the usual LSC screeches (Ack ack ack ack ack) and beeps and delight in finding those sounds which get into your brain and wreck hovock As with other white toos both my citrons love to cuddle and would be perfectly happy surgically attached to my arm. Citrons I've been told are more scitish than other sulfer crested toos but between mine and all the others I've met over the years they seem to fall in the normal range of behavior I've seen in lesser sulfers. One is very friendly and out going and the other is why and nervous. I've been told that they don't talk as much as white toos but all the ones I've met all said a few things and I've heard both the classic child like too voice and what I like to call the evil whisper bird voice. They have a high pitched call but otherwise sound like a too just a few octaves higher. My experience has confirmed that they are very nippy (especially the younger ones) but they don't bite too hard unless you get them going or they are scared. Galahs are a hoot and generally more independant than the white toos which can be a good thing if you aren't into a velcroatoo. They have a loud honk sort of screech that I wouldn't want to hear close at hand for an extended period but given their talking ability they can probably make whatever annoying sound they find most effective at full volume Oh and pictures of your babies would be great!!!Īll eclectuses I've meet have not been hands on birds (especially the females) but I've told they bond we'll to their owners and can be great talkers. If you have any answers to questions I haven't asked, feel free to answer them How easy do they stress? I've been very fortunate with River and have tried exposing him to a lot early in life so he gets used to things. I showed her some pictures of the Galahs and she thinks they are so beautiful.ĭiet requirements? ( I know the ecletus have special requirements)ĭo they bond to just one person? or to multiple family members? River's beak is a little intimidating for her, and she would like a bird a little smaller and not quite as large as a macaw, so we started looking at parrots and small Toos. She was also a size my mom was comfortable with. They're citron was absolutely beautiful and so sweet, mom just fell in love. I delivered some bird stands to a lady who owned a citron, and my mom was with me. But she had her heart set on one as soon as she could get the ok from my dad. The baby was already sold, so it kind of crushed her. She really likes the ecletus parrot, she saw one at a bird show, the female, and just thought she was so beautiful. Works the farm, and will have plenty of time to give her new baby. My brother and I will both be leaving for the 4yr university and my macaw, who she's grown attached to, will be coming with me. Will be leaving for school in the fall and River will be coming with me. I can read articles and books till I'm blue in the face, but the first hand experience from owners holds more weight with me than anything else. If anyone owns all 3 birds and has input please tell! but I'd be happy hearing how your babies are. Needing some first hand experienced owners opinions on their fids personalities.
